What is a Temporary Work Visa (subclass 457) visa?
The Temporary Work (Skilled) (Subclass 457) visa is designed to enable employers to address labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where they cannot find an appropriately skilled Australian.
The subclass 457visa is the most commonly used programme for employers to sponsor overseas workers to work in Australia on a temporary basis.
It allows businesses to employ overseas workers for up to 4 years in skilled occupations only. Also there is no visa cap on the 457 visa, which means employers may request or sponsor as many foreign- national applicants are necessary.

How Can I apply for a Work Visa (subclass 457) visa?
For the one that never held a provisional visa before or currently living in overseas , you should apply for 489 visa through Invited Pathway. In order to receive an invitation to apply for this visa, you must be:
• nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency, or
• sponsored by an eligible relative living in a Designated area of Australia.

In this stage of process, your employer needs to lodge their applications to sponsor and nominate you.
Step 5: Apply for the 457 Visa
After you find an employer and get a nomination, you can apply for the 457 visa
The person nominated to work in the nominated occupation applies for the subclass 457 visa. This is the final stage to obtaining a subclass 457 visa.
Step 6: Wait for a decision from DIBP
It can take several months for the DIBP to process and make a decision on your visa application. The processing time for the 457 visa is about 2-6 months
