It will reportedly include an AMOLED screen for an edge-to-edge experience, as well as an internal redesign.
The latest reports suggest Apple will introduce three new iPhone models in 2017, including a high-end model codenamed Ferrari. It will reportedly include an AMOLED screen for an edge-to-edge experience, as well as an internal redesign, according to Chinese tech site cnBeta, which cites Apple manufacturing documents.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in March hinted at Apple's move from LCD displays to the more power-efficient AMOLED. In line with that prediction, the latest leaks tip a bigger screen packed into same-size frames, indicating a bezel-less front.
Next year's smartphones, meanwhile, may also feature a divided motherboard. As AppleInsider reports, the circuit card will be split into two pieces—one for operating elements, the other for Wi-Fi and cellular components—connected by a "soft cable," cnBeta said in a translated report. A two-tier motherboard might help save space, as would Cupertino's idea to relocate the SIM card tray to the bottom of the handset, AppleInsider adds.
