Jan 30, 2017 under Accidents/Incidents 105 , Travel 114

A man from North Wales has died in a paragliding accident in Nepal.

Michael Peter Blanchard was tragically killed in the Himalayan country on Sunday, January 22.

It is thought that the father, and husband of Ruthin pharmacist Miriam Blanchard, was in his late 60s.

He is said to have been involved in the accident, which resulted in his death, the day after he arrived in the country.

It has been reported locally that the incident took place in Pokhara, in the Kaski district north-west of the capital Kathmandu.

He later died at Metro City Hospital in Pokhara.

Ruthin county councillor, David Smith, told the Daily Post: “I know his wife Miriam, who is a businesswoman.

“It really is sad news for the town and she has got the full sympathy and support of the community.”

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman added: “We are supporting the family of a British man who sadly died in Nepal on January 22.”
